This model is a re-creation of the original Grand Seiko model from 1960, very few of which were produced in platinum. The manual winding Caliber 9S64 was adjusted to an even higher level of precision than the other anniversary models, sbgw252 and sbgw253, -1 to +5 seconds (under static conditions) per day for the sbgw251. The .999 platinum used for this model has higher purity than the .950 platinum that is typically used for watches and jewelry and is one of 2 watches (of which I'm aware) cased in .999 unalloyed platinum. The dial is hand engraved 18k white gold with polished 18k white gold markers. The hands are stainless steel. Only 136 of the sbgw251 were made, and though there have been other similar platinum watches by Grand Seiko since the sbgw251, none has been made in .999 platinum.

The original retail price for this watch was $30,600, and, while this sale is for the watch and straps only - no box or papers, we believe it represents an extraordinary value for a reference that is unique (meaning the standard definition, and not how the word is commonly used in informal conversation) in Grand Seiko's catalogue, especially considering how much Grand Seiko has increased prices of its precious metal watches, none of which has been made in pure platinum since the sbgw251.

The sale includes the watch, its original Grand Seiko black strap, and 3 custom straps from ABP, 2 alligator and 1 alcantara.
