After years of dominance, the blue trend seems to be slowly winding down. I personally enjoy blue watches. While it may not be as elegant as black, it still has a certain charm. More recently, however, watch companies have been experimenting with other colors. Take the new green Rado Captain Cook Automatic, for example. Following this model’s initial success, the Swiss watch manufacturer has wisely decided to expand the line. Rado offers the Captain Cook in a number of colors, including this timepiece with its beautiful, dark green dial and bezel. At 42 mm, the stainless steel case is modern yet managable. The “beads of rice” bracelet is also a winner. The watch features a date display (which appeals to some more than others) and is powered by an automatic movement with an 80-hour power reserve. After stepping out of Seiko’s shadow and becoming its own brand, Grand Seiko continues to amaze us with their new releases. Of course, this is in keeping with their amazing track record under Seiko. However, now that they’re independent, it seems that they just can’t stop producing great and incredibly high-quality watches. Most people today associate Grand Seiko with sharp edges and distinctive shapes. At the same time, the watches are decidedly elegant with a touch of sportiness. It’s also worth noting that Grand Seiko has a dedicated line of diving watches in their Sport collection. Yes, I mean large and bulky steel tool watches with a 200-m depth rating and amazing Spring Drive movements. Examples include the reference SBGA229, as well as this model, the SBGA231. This timepiece features a large, 44.2-mm titanium case with sapphire crystal. It also comes with a date display and unidirectional rotating bezel. Combined with Zaratsu polishing, the result is an amazing watch that is as durable, if not more so, than any Seiko sports watch on the market.
