Omega Speedmaster '57

With just two subdials, Co-Axial calibers, and a date display, the Omega Speedmaster '57 collection puts a modern spin on the iconic design of the classic Speedmaster models, transforming them into contemporary chronographs.

The collection comprises two generations. Watches in the first generation were produced until 2022, and are powered by an automatic caliber. Omega announced that the second generation of Speedmaster '57 models would take over in 2022, and chose to outfit them with a manual caliber. The earlier models are 41.5 mm, while the newer versions measure 40.5 mm across.

Depending on the exact reference and caliber, you can choose between dials in black, white, blue, green, and red. When it comes to the band, these models generally come on either a three-piece link stainless steel bracelet or a leather strap that matches your chosen dial color. All the timepieces in this collection have a sapphire crystal and offer water-resistance to 50 m (50 bar, 164 ft).

While the newer, manual-winding Speedmaster '57 watches are exclusively available in stainless steel, models from the first generation also come in titanium and gold. The gold watches are the most prestigious, and can demand up to 25,000 USD.

You can buy a pre-owned Omega Speedmaster '57 on a leather strap in very good condition for around 4,000 USD. A new stainless steel model with a black dial mounted on a steel bracelet will cost you around 5,900 USD. If you're interested in a titanium case, expect prices to rise to around 6,700 USD. Two-tone models sell for around the 7,000 USD mark. Speedmaster '57 models made from 18-karat gold, however, change hands for between 23,500 and 25,000 USD.

Speedmaster '57 watches with the Co-Axial caliber 9300 have a diameter of 41.5 mm, while the 2022 editions powered by the caliber 9906 measure 40.5 mm across. You'll also notice that the watches in this collection have only two subdials, one less than the traditional Speedmaster models. The subdial at 3 o'clock serves as the combined 12-hour and 60-minute chronograph counter. The small seconds counter is positioned at 9 o'clock. The Speedmaster '57 displays the date at 6 o'clock.

The caliber 9300 is an automatic movement with a co-axial escapement, silicone balance spring, and 60-hour power reserve. The caliber 9906 is a manual movement and also features a co-axial escapement and silicone balance spring. However, this movement is certified as a Master Chronometer by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS), which means it's not just extremely accurate, but also resistant to magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss.

Numerous Dial Colors and Materials

The Speedmaster ref. 331.10.42.51.01.001 is a 41.5-mm wristwatch equipped with the caliber 9300. The timepiece has a classic character and is fitted with a black dial. White Super-LumiNova is printed onto the indices and hands. This reference comes on a stainless steel bracelet and costs about 5,900 USD in mint condition. If you prefer your luminous material to be artificially aged, check out the ref. 331.10.42.51.01.002. This Omega watch also costs around 5,900 USD.

The Speedmaster '57 with the caliber 9300 also comes with a blue dial. You can find this model under the reference number 331.10.42.51.03.001. Plan to spend around 6,400 USD on a new example. The titanium ref. 331.90.42.51.04.001 offers a sportier look on account of its white dial. This Speedmaster costs around 6,700 USD in mint condition.

If you're in the market for a gold Speedmaster '57, consider the refs. 331.50.42.51.02.001 and 331.50.42.51.02.002. The case and bracelet of the former are crafted from yellow gold, while these elements are rose gold on the latter. Both watches feature a white dial and gold hands and indices. You'll need to invest around 24,500 USD in the yellow gold version, and around 25,000 USD in the rose gold variant.

Speedmaster '57 With the Hand-Winding Caliber 9906

In March 2022, Omega unveiled new '57 models to mark the 65th anniversary of the Speedmaster. These new releases measure 40.5 mm and are powered by the manual caliber 9906. The manufacturer also added new dial colors to the lineup: you can now choose from the usual black and blue, as well as red and green. All the watches can be paired with either a stainless steel bracelet or a leather strap that matches your chosen dial color.

At the time of writing in August 2022, not every versio was listed on Chrono24. However, the variant with the green dial paired with a steel bracelet (ref. 332.10.41.51.10.001) was selling for around 8,500 USD. Listings for the Speedmaster '57 sporting a black dial with a leather strap came in at around 8,000 USD.

The ref. 332.10.41.51.11.001, which has a red dial and comes on a steel bracelet, was reaching prices between 8,500 and 11,000 USD. Only time will tell if these amounts are realistic. Omega lists this Speedmaster '57 version on a steel bracelet for 8,600 USD and 8,300 USD on a leather strap.

Speedmaster '57 Trilogy Edition

2017 marked the launch of the Speedmaster '57 Trilogy edition (ref. 311.10.39.30.01.001). Since this model is practically identical to the original Speedmaster ref. CK2915 from 1957, its case measures 38.6 mm, making it a great choice for those with slender wrists. Like the original, this timepiece sports straight lugs, which is one way you can tell it apart from other Speedmaster watches. The caliber has been updated, however, from the Lemania-based caliber 321 to the caliber 1881. This newer movement offers a power reserve of 48 hours. Omega outfits this Speedmaster with a Hesalite crystal and the watch offers water-resistance to 60 m (6 bar, 196 ft).

The Speedmaster '57 Trilogy edition is limited to a run of 3,557 pieces and sells for around 9,000 USD new.
