Tudor Fastrider Black Shield – the Chronograph for Bikers
The Fastrider Black Shield is one of the sportiest watches made by the Swiss manufacturer Tudor. This 42-mm chronograph is made of matte black ceramic, making it especially light and scratch-resistant. The stopwatch's sporty design is inspired by the XDiavel motorbike made by the Italian company Ducati. This is a machine that embodies the unity of perfect design, high performance, and state-of-the-art technology – the same can be said of the Tudor Fastrider Black Shield . High-contrast color accents liven the otherwise black design of this luxury watch and underscore its sporty character. The Black Shield is the ideal watch for motorcyclists and chronograph lovers.
Tudor decided on the ETA/Valjoux-based automatic caliber 7753 for the Fastrider Black Shield. This is the same caliber found in the stainless steel models of the Fastrider collection. This movement has a chronograph function, 46-hour power reserve, and a date display at 4:30. Using the Fastrider Black Shield, you can measure periods of time of up to 12 hours. The elapsed hours can be found at 6 o'clock while the minutes are at 3. The small seconds dial is at 9 o'clock. If you prefer a longer power reserve or want to have your own certified chronometer with stopwatch functionality, take a closer look at the Black Bay Chrono from the Heritage collection. This retro watch is powered by the in-house movement MT5813, which has a 70-hour power reserve when fully wound, and has been certified as a chronometer by the Offical Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC).
How much does a Tudor Fastrider Black Shield cost?
A Tudor Fastrider Black Shield costs approximately 2,800 euros pre-owned and 3,300 euros in mint condition. There is a price difference of a few hundred euros between versions with white or beige elements (Ref. 42000CN) and models with red accents (42000GR). The latter is somewhat more affordable both new and pre-owned. You can get a pre-owned stainless steel Fastrider Chrono for as little as 2,500 euros or for around 2,800 euros in mint condition.
The Tudor Fastrider Black Shield's Design
The look of the Tudor Fastrider Black Shield is influenced by modern design elements. Some of the chronograph's main features are its 42-mm monobloc ceramic case and its eye-catching color accents. For example, the watch with the reference number 42000CR has bright red indices, hands, and inscriptions. Even the Tudor logo at 12 o'clock and the seam on the leader band feature these striking color accents. If the leather band isn't to your liking, there is also a rubber strap available. A bright red ring hugs the dial and makes for an even flashier look.
An additional pusher that activates the quick date adjustment mechanism is located on the left side of the case. You will find the crown on the opposite side, as is the case with most wristwatches. The crown and case back are both screw-down. This gives the watch a water resistance of 150 m or 15 bar, which is plenty for swimming. Just like the pusher, the crown is also made of stainless steel coated in a layer of black PVD. To maintain a uniform appearance, the fold-over safety clasp also has a black coating. Those who wish to measure speeds can use the chronometer function together with the tachymeter scale on the fixed ceramic bezel.
If the black and red design of the Ref. 42000CR isn't for you, Tudor offers two more versions of the Black Shield. These have either white or beige-colored elements and feel less "aggressive". The latter version is available with a beige-colored Alcantara band. This microfiber fabric feels soft like suede, but is produced synthetically. It is also breathable, durable, and easy to clean. The model with white accents, on the other hand, has a black leather band with white seams. Alternatively, both watches come with a rubber strap. Technically speaking, all three versions are identical.
